Uruguay lose to Tahiti but advance to quarters on goal difference

Despite losing 6-4 to Tahiti in their final group outing, Uruguay edged into the quarter-finals due to their superior goal difference.

The match showed how fine the margins are at this level. Tahiti had a 5-1 lead at one stage only to squander it to late goals from Uruguay captain Gaston Laduche, Marcelo Capurro and Nicolas Bella. The Polynesians needed a three-goal win to advance at Uruguay's expense.

Uruguay now progress to the quarter-finals where they will face Group A winners Japan, while two-time Beach Soccer World Cup runners-up Tahiti are left to lament a surprise elimination.
