  • Netherlands and Argentina seal direct World Cup qualification

  • CAF's final ten confirmed, play-off line-up finalised in Europe, Canada claim Concacaf summit

The year's final day of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ qualifiers promised much and it duly delivered.

Thirty-two matches took place across five continents with the Netherlands and Argentina securing the main headlines.

The Dutch sealed a direct qualification ticket to Qatar 2022 with a 2-0 victory over Norway seeing them return to the world finals after missing out on Russia 2018.

Argentina played out a gritty scoreless draw at home against Brazil and, combined with Chile's home defeat shortly afterwards, ensured La Albiceleste boast an unassailable hold on a top-four finish.

Elsewhere, Algeria, Cameroon, Nigeria and Tunisia progressed to the third and final round of qualifying, joining Congo DR, Egypt, Ghana, Mali, Morocco and Senegal.

The action opened in Asia with Japan moving into second behind Group B leaders Saudi Arabia, while IR Iran and Korea Republic maintained their stranglehold on Group A.

The day wrapped up with four intriguing matches in Concacaf's Octagonal, where Canada moved top with a memorable home win over Mexico.
