Sergio Ramos became the most-capped European men's player of all time on Saturday when he made his 177th appearance and captained Spain in their UEFA Nations League match against Switzerland, surpassing Italy's Gianluigi Buffon in the process.

Maltese football legend Michael Mifsud made his 143rd and final appearance for the national team this week. He's one of only a few Europeans to have an international career span over 20 years, joining the likes of Lothar Matthaus, Jari Litmanen and Gianluigi Buffon.

Cristiano Ronaldo reached a couple of milestones in Portugal's 7-0 demolition of Andorra on Wednesday. It was the Portugal star's 100th international victory, bringing him level with Spain's Xavi. His goal in the 85th minute also brought him to 102 international goals, moving him just seven shy of IR Iran's Ali Daei for the men's all-time record.

Scotland will feature in their first major tournament in 23 years following a dramatic UEFA EURO play-off penalty shoot-out victory over Serbia to reach the 2020 UEFA EURO. Goalkeeper David Marshall reprised his shoot-out heroics in the semi-final against Israel to again be the hero for the Scots.

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Giovanni Reyna made his senior national team debut for the USA this week, in a friendly with Wales, which saw his family become the first in the country's history to have three members represent their national teams: father Claudio won 112 caps for the men's national team from 1994 to 2006 and mother Danielle won six caps for the women's national team in 1993.

North Macedonia qualified for their first ever major international tournament as they edged Georgia 1-0 on Thursday in their play-off. Goran Pandev scored the winning goal and if he makes an appearance at UEFA EURO 2020 he will have waited 20 years for his first major tournament since his debut for North Macedonia in 2001.
