Pots for the FIFA U-20 World Cup Argentina 2023 draw

Title contenders Brazil and England have intriguingly gone into Pot 2 for the FIFA U-20 World Cup Argentina 2023™. The Seleção have conquered the competition five times – a total bettered only by Argentina – while the Three Lions won it in 2017. Debutants Dominican Republic and Israel are in Pot 4.

Samantha Johnson will present the draw, which will be conducted by FIFA Director of Tournaments Jaime Yarza.

FIFA Legends Juan Pablo Sorin - the winning World Youth Championship captain in 1995 with La Albiceleste, and who appeared at two FIFA World Cups - will be joined by David Trezeguet as the two Draw Assistants. Trezeguet appeared at the 1997 FIFA World Youth Championship in 1997, reaching the quarter-finals, before a year later, being part of the senior France team who won the FIFA World Cup on home soil.

Draw Procedures

The 24 qualified teams have been allocated to four pots of six teams each. To determine these pots, the teams have been ranked based on the total points obtained in the last five FIFA U-20 World Cups. The 24 teams will be drawn into six groups of four, with 16 of them advancing to the knockout phase.

20 May to 11 June.
