  • Chile appoint Colombian Reinaldo Rueda as their new coach
  • The 60-year-old will oversee the team's Qatar 2022 qualifiers
  • He has previously coached Colombia, Honduras and Ecuador

Chile have confirmed Reinaldo Rueda as their new coach, with the Colombian agreeing a contract until the end of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar™ qualifiers.

Rueda, 60, is a vastly experienced figure who has previously led his native Colombia as well as coaching Honduras at the 2010 World Cup and Ecuador at the 2014 edition. More recently, he enjoyed tremendous success with club side Atletico Nacional, leading the Medellin side to two league titles and glory in the Copa Libertadores.

He succeeds Juan Antonio Pizzi, who resigned following Chile's failure to qualify for Russia 2018.

"We took the necessary time to find the best coach for our team," Chilean National Football Association (ANFP) president Arturo Salah said in a statement. "A coach with experience in international teams, who has qualified for the World Cup and has a high level sporting career.

"We hope that Reinaldo Rueda achieves great goals with La Roja and that he brings his experience to all the teams, from the adult to the youth, transferring his knowledge, styles and technical definitions to all categories, which goes directly to one of the objectives of our strategic plan — sustainable results at the level of national teams."
