Following the statutory 60-day period after their approval by the Extraordinary FIFA Congress on 26 February 2016, the revised FIFA Statutes will take effect as of tomorrow (27 April 2016) and are now available on FIFA.com.
The revised FIFA Statutes pave the way for significant changes to FIFA’s governance structure, including key aspects such as term limits, separation of political and management functions, diversity, independence of committee members, enhanced committee efficiency, eligibility checks and greater transparency and inclusion through broader stakeholder representation. The worldwide implementation of FIFA’s reforms will be one of the main items on the agenda of the 66th FIFA Congress taking place in Mexico City on 12 and 13 May 2016.

*Candidates for the positions of chairperson, deputy chairperson and members of each of the Audit and Compliance Committee and the judicial bodies must pass an eligibility check carried out by the Review Committee in accordance with the FIFA Governance Regulations. However, until the Review Committee is established, the Audit and Compliance Committee will conduct the eligibility checks pertaining to members of these committees. Candidates for the positions of chairperson, deputy chairperson and members of the Governance Committee must pass an eligibility check carried out by the investigatory chamber of the Ethics Committee.
*Candidates for the positions of chairperson, deputy chairperson and members of each of the Audit and Compliance Committee and the judicial bodies shall fulfil the independence criteria as defined in the FIFA Governance Regulations. No fewer than half of the members of the Governance Committee (including the chairperson and deputy chairperson) shall also fulfil the independence criteria as defined in the FIFA Governance Regulations.
