Nigeria struggled to shine in attack at the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019™. Goalless against Norway and France in the group phase and Germany in the Round of 16, the Super Falcons scored just twice in the tournament, with both those goals coming against Korea Republic, the first of them an own goal. The second was a simply sublime strike, however.

It was no surprise that it came from Asisat Oshoala. With Nigeria leading 1-0 and the South Koreans pushing for an equaliser, Chidinma Okeke picked up possession just outside her penalty box, skipped past an opponent as she surged forward, and played a long ball into Oshoala’s path.

The rest was all down to the talent of the three-time African Player of the Year. The Barcelona forward showed her speed in getting to the ball first, holding off a defender and then taking the ball round keeper Kim Minjung. She still had it all to do, however. Off balance and with the angle narrowing with each step, Oshoala wrapped her right foot around the ball and somehow sent it spinning inside the near post and over the line.

Her superb finish sealed the points for Nigeria and was rightly selected as one of the finest goals of France 2019. But was it the finest of them all? The decision is yours!
