  • Tigres yet to win continental tournament

Monterrey claimed a tight 2-1 aggregate win over compatriots Tigres on Wednesday to win their fourth Concacaf Champions League and first since 2013.

Holding a handy 1-0 lead after an away win last week, Monterrey extended their advantage when Nico Sanchez tucked a penalty midway through the first half.

Monterrey dominated the first half with Tigres goalkeeper Nahuel Guzman making some key saves, while opposite number Marcelo Barovero did likewise in the second period.

Andre-Pierre Cignac finally got Tigres on the scoreboard five minutes from fulltime to set up a nervy finale.

Tigres have now lost three of past four continental finals.
