Moments

Déjà vu Seven days ago, Robinho picked up possession on the right, used his left foot to drag the ball outside his marker, and scored. Today, he did just that again. This time, however, the 38-year-old had a little help from a friend, playing a one-two with Andrei Afanasev before burying a goal of the tournament contender. It was also a day to remember for two Ivans. Chishkala scored twice to take his Lithuania 2021 tally to five – one behind leading marksman Ferrao – and Milovanov became the first Russian to win 100 caps. Heads held high Vietnam lost 7-0 to Russia in the Round of 16 at Colombia 2016, many predicted a similar thrashing and, sure enough, RFU raced into a 2-0 lead. But not only was the Vietnamese response immediate, it was historic. Ho Van Y released an inch-perfect throw upfield, the ball was knocked across goal and Nguyen Dac Huy headed it home en route to a pride-instilling 3-2 defeat. “It was an amazing goal, absolutely fantastic,” said Miguel Rodrigo of the FIFA Technical Study Group. “A header assisting a header is something you barely ever see.”

A ten performance Soufiane El Mesrar doesn’t get to wear the No10 at club level – he shares a dressing room with Ricardinho – but he delivered a performance the six-time Best Player in the World would have been proud of today. The 31-year-old hit a hat-trick to inspire Morocco to an upset victory and a place in the FIFA Futsal World Cup™ quarter-finals for the first time. Flying high The Moroccans celebrated wildly at the final whistle – as did their travelling fans. Some huge cheers went up and coach Hicham Dguig and Abdelkrim Anbia were repeatedly thrown in the air by the euphoric players.

Quotes

"They are getting stronger each year and today they wouldn't give up, fought till last seconds. Every game in the World Cup is difficult. Our emotions are good now because we’ve taken another step closer to our target.” Ivan Milovanov "We are very proud of our performance at the FIFA Futsal World Cup. We have given our best for our fans and our nation. This is the highest-level competition in the world and we have produced our most successful campaign.” Van Vu Tran, Vietnam captain "I am going to tell my team-mates to keep their heads up, that we have to feel proud because we have played a great tournament. Nobody gave us a chance and things worked out for us. Venezuela reached the World Cup to continue advancing and growing, not backing down". Jose Villalobos, Venezuela captain
