Landmarks for Juve duo, doubles all round in Germany

  • 700th goal for Lionel Messi

  • Buffon and Cristiano Ronaldo reach milestones

  • Bayern and Wolfsburg each win the double

Football has finally done it. After the enforced break that went on for a number of months, plenty of leagues around the world are getting back to business out on the pitch, or have already done so. It would also appear that the hygiene plans and measures to counter the COVID19 pandemic are enjoying some success.

With matches being played behind closed doors, substitutes’ benches that are placed way apart and occupied by players in masks, elbow celebrations, seats that are empty or filled with cardboard cut-outs and video walls of fans in the stands, everything is a little different. But nevertheless, a little slice of 'normal' seems to have returned.

FIFA.com is here to give you a run-down of what has been happening both on the pitch and off it over the past few days.

Transfers

A number of leagues have brought their seasons to a close and are already looking to the future. The transfer window has been extended to October, but the merry-go-round is already under way, albeit slowly to begin with.

Bayern look to be the big winners so far, having picked up two top-class players in Leroy Sane (from Manchester City) and Tanguy Kouassi (from Paris St.-Germain) over the past couple of days.

The first big swap of the 2020/21 summer is also in the books, with Arthur leaving Barcelona for Juventus, and Miralem Pjanic going in the opposite direction.

Women’s football

Real Madrid now have a women’s football team. "Real Madrid is delighted to be taking on this new challenge with the commitment to driving women’s football forward and contributing to its growth and development in our society," the club said in a press release.

Real will be taking over Madrid club Tacon and re-badging the team as 'Real Madrid Feminino'. Tacon was founded in 2014 and won promotion to the top flight last year, where they finished in tenth spot.

Record women’s Bundesliga champions 1. FFC Frankfurt will also have a new name in the coming season. The seven-time league and four-time Champions League winners are now going to be part of Eintracht Frankfurt.

"1. FFC have had an effect on German women’s football over the past 20 years like no other club and turned Frankfurt into a veritable hub of domestic and international women’s football," said delighted Eintracht board member Axel Hellmann.
