Kuwait sanctioned after unplayed FIFA World Cup™ qualifier

The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has reached a decision in the case involving the Kuwait Football Association (KFA) following an unplayed match in the preliminary competition for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™.

The Group G match of the Asian zone qualifiers between Myanmar and Kuwait that was scheduled for 17 November 2015 did not take place and the matter was subsequently referred to the FIFA Disciplinary Committee for its consideration.

The Disciplinary Committee has decided that the match should be forfeited, in accordance with art. 31 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, and ordered the KFA to pay a fine of CHF 10,000 after being found to be liable for the violation of art. 6 par. 5 of the Regulations 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ and art. 56 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code.

The decision was reached after a thorough analysis of all relevant information pertaining to the case, in particular the fact that the KFA has been suspended since 16 October 2015.

The decision was notified today.
