Inside look into the VAR review process

In its last meeting on 16 March 2018, the FIFA Council approved the use of the Video Assistant Referee during the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™. With the goal of maximum benefit with minimum interference, VAR will assist the referees and help them to officiate games more effectively.

“It's not a question of refereeing the match with technology. The goal has never been to check every minor incident”, said Pierluigi Collina, Chairman of FIFA’s Referees Committee, during a World Cup preparatory seminar in Coverciano, Italy. “It's about avoiding clear and obvious major errors.”

What are the four match-changing situations and how does the review process function? Roberto Rosetti, VAR Refereeing Project Leader answers these questions in the video above.
