Lorena Navarro gave a striking masterclass by scoring a record-equalling five goals as Spain cruised to a 6-0 win over Jordan in their FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup opener.

The smallest and youngest player in La Rojita's line-up proved irrepressible, even laying on the sixth goal for substitute Claudia Pina as the 2014 finalists outclassed their hard-working hosts.

The match had been preceded by a stirring opening ceremony and an appearance by Spanish legend Xavi, and it initially seemed to have inspired the Jordanians, who nearly snatched a shock early lead.

But within two minutes of Sara Abu-Sabbah heading over from inside the six-yard box, the Navarro show began. The first of her five goals was all down to movement, with the little striker ghosting into space to meet a Lucia Rodriguez cross before guiding a header into the far corner. Her second was an altogether more spectacular affair, with the 15-year-old leaving her marker for dead with a swivel of the hips before smashing an unstoppable left-foot shot high into the corner of the net.

Navarro's hat-trick was then completed just before half-time when her striker's instinct led to her being in the right place at the right time to slot home after Leyre Monente's initial effort had bounced back off the face of the post.

Goal number four came from the penalty spot after a clumsy challenge by Noor Abukishk on Paula Fernandez, and her record-equalling fifth arrived with 11 minutes remaining when she again raced through to coolly finish. There was even time for the brilliant Spaniard to add an assist, lofting a perfect cross for Pina to expertly volley home the sixth and final goal of a one-sided contest.
