FIFA President says football must embrace the entire world during FIFA Club World Cup draw speech

• Gianni Infantino spoke at the draw ceremony in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia • FIFA Club World Cup 2023 will take place from 12 to 22 December 2023 • The competition will inspire people around the world, the FIFA President said Gianni Infantino said that the FIFA Club World Cup™ was a reflection of FIFA's determination to make football truly global when he spoke during the draw for this year's competition in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The FIFA Club World Cup 2023™, the 20th edition of the event, will be staged in Jeddah from 12 to 22 December 2023 and will feature the club champions from each continent plus host nation Saudi Arabia. “These competitions, like the best FIFA Club World Cup ever that we will organise here in Saudi Arabia, will inspire girls and boys and women and men all over the world,” said the FIFA President.

"We want to make football truly global and in order for football to become truly global, we need to embrace the entire globe. We need to go to the east, to the west, to the south, to the north, and this competition is a reflection of that with the champions of all continents participating to see which is the best club." Mr Infantino also talked about football development in the host nation. "We are in a country that is following a very important path in football, champion of Asia in the under-23 category and having set up recently a nationwide women's competition and women's national team as well."

Yasser Al Misehal, President of the Saudi Arabian Football Association (SAFF), said it was an honour for the country to host the competition for the first time, and spoke of his country’s passion for football. "We are excited to see some of the world's best footballers and rising stars take the field and excite fans in Saudi Arabia and around the world," he said. "Football is not just a sport in Saudi Arabia, it is a way of life. Every city, village and community throughout our country is bound by a passion for football whether playing attending or watching." The result of the draw was as follows, with the champions of South America's Copa Libertadores to be decided on 4 November.

Official emblem launched

The draw was preceded by the launch of the tournament's official emblem on the evening of Monday, 4 September. The emblem, which combines lavender and gold, captures the prestige of global club football's showpiece event.
