FIFA President inaugurates Forward project in Curacao

After a first stop in the Cayman Islands, FIFA President continued his tour of the Caribbean region on Friday with a visit to Curacao.

The highlight of the programme was the inauguration of a new artificial turf and changing rooms entirely funded by the FIFA Forward programme. President Infantino attended the inauguration ceremony together with Concacaf President Victor Montagliani and Curacao Football Federation (FFK) President Rignaal Francisca.

Infantino also met with the FFK Executive Committee members at the federation’s headquarters where he praised the association for its progress and valuable work, mirrored in the national team’s latest results on the pitch and current 79th position in the latest FIFA Ranking.

“We are very encouraged by the serious work done here in Curacao, with significant investments in infrastructure, local competitions and youth development, and all this is reflected in the recent successes of the national team. The federation needs to keep up the good work, focusing on the football and social development of both boys and girls in order to achieve sustained success on and off the pitch,” said the FIFA President.

To end the visit, the delegation attended the centenary celebrations of CRKSV Jong Holland, the current title holders of the Prome Divishon, in the presence of Prime Minister Eugene Rhuggenaath, as well as the Curacaoan football community.

During its second participation to the Concacaf Gold Cup in June 2019, Curacao achieved a historic first win and reached the knockout stage of the top continental competition for the first time, where they lost 1-0 against regional heavyweights USA.
