FIFA President and Prime Minister of Greece meet in New York

  • During the meeting President Infantino and Prime Minister Mitsotakis discussed football development matters and the upcoming FIFA World Cup™

  • Gianni Infantino and Kyriakos Mitsotakis are both in the United States for the United Nations General Assembly

  • Earlier in September Mr Infantino also met with the President of the Hellenic Football Federation in Paris

The FIFA President and the Prime Minister of the Hellenic Republic have renewed acquaintances for a meeting in New York City, where both are attending the 77th United Nations General Assembly.

The meeting builds on a series of productive recent interactions between President Infantino and key political and sporting leaders in Greece.

President Infantino and Prime Minister Mitsotakis met most recently in Doha, Qatar – while the FIFA President also hosted the President of the Hellenic Football Federation, Panagiotis Baltakos, in Paris earlier in September.

During the meeting in New York City President Infantino and Prime Minister Mitsotakis discussed the upcoming FIFA World Cup™, which kicks off in 59 days’ time. 

The two leaders also discussed the latest updates on football development in Greece and the wider topic of global football development, a key part of the FIFA President’s Vision 2020-2023.

During Mr Infantino’s time in New York City, the FIFA President has also met and discussed key matters of global football development with the presidents of Ecuador, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Turkey and Rwanda – as well as the Secretary-General of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, and the Director-General of the World Trade Organization.
