FIFA Guardians Safeguarding in Sport Diploma receiving worldwide interest as first webinar begins 

  • FIFA Learners from around the world take part in first FIFA Guardians Safeguarding in Sport Diploma webinar

  • More than 180 registered FIFA Learners from member associations and confederations for two-year Diploma

  • Over 700 learners worldwide have registered so far for course one – FIFA Guardians Safeguarding Essentials

Following the launch last month, the FIFA Guardians Safeguarding in Sport Diploma has taken an important step with the first webinar taking place this week with FIFA Learners from around the world taking part.

Consisting of five online courses primarily aimed at safeguarding officers in FIFA’s 211 member associations, the FIFA Guardians Safeguarding in Sport Diploma will provide FIFA Learners with access to dedicated webinars, moderated forums, interactive workshops and assessments over the next two years, with courses designed to guide the learners through practical steps and examples of safeguarding best practice in sport.

Launched last month on the International Day of Education, the FIFA Guardians Safeguarding in Sport Diploma has already received worldwide interest, as well as the support of several FIFA Legends, including Kaká, Rio Ferdinand, Lindsay Tarpley, Juan Pablo Ángel and Mbo Mpenza.

Over 180 FIFA Learners have been registered so far from member associations and confederations around the world for the full Diploma, with over 700 learners in total, including from the global football community and open learners, having registered for course one – the FIFA Guardians Safeguarding Essentials.

Developed by FIFA and The Open University (OU) together with global safeguarding experts, practitioners and academics in the field, the FIFA Guardians Safeguarding in Sport Diploma aims to strengthen and professionalise the role of a safeguarding officer and standards across football.
