Doha hosts 24th Arabian Gulf Cup draw

  • Draw for the 24th Arabian Gulf Cup took place in Doha

  • Five teams will take part in tournament from 24 November to 6 December

  • All matches to be played at Khalifa International Stadium

The five teams that will take part in the 24th Arabian Gulf Cup in Qatar now know their path after the draw ceremony for the tournament took place in Doha.

Hosts Qatar will be joined by defending champions Oman, ten-time winners Kuwait, Iraq and Yemen, with all matches to be played at Khalifa International Stadium from 24 November to 6 December.

The five nations will compete in a round-robin format, with the side that finishes top of the group being crowned champions.

The tournament's opening match will see hosts Qatar face Yemen on 24 November.

Qatar will be hosting the regional tournament, which is organised by the Arab Gulf Cup Football Federation (AGCFF), for the fourth time. The Maroons have been successful when hosting the tournament, winning it on two occasions in 1992 and 2004.

The first edition of the Arabian Gulf Cup took place in 1970 with Kuwait running out inaugural winners after defeating Bahrain in the final.

"We are pleased to announce that five teams will compete in this year's edition of the Arabian Gulf Cup, including the reigning champions of Asia and nations who, between them, have claimed this prestigious trophy 18 times," said Jassim Al Rumaihi, General Secretary of the AGCFF. "We are looking forward to hosting thousands of fans from across the region as Qatar continues its preparations for the FIFA World Cup in 2022."

Khalifa International Stadium, which reopened in May 2017 following an extensive redevelopment to prepare it for Qatar 2022, is located in Aspire Zone and has previously hosted the Arabian Gulf Cup, the Asian Games and the AFC Asian Cup.
