Ninety-four teams, with almost 1,000 schoolchildren from the Zurich area - staggered throughout the day - visited the Home of FIFA for the annual Schueli tournament on Saturday, showcasing the “pure joy” of the sport, according to former Switzerland international, Pascal Zuberbuhler.
The tournament was staged after a locally-based qualification competition for children between the ages of 8 and 13, underlining the spirit of fair play and friendship that runs through football, while enhancing FIFA’s role in the local community. Schueli, which is rich in tradition and has been held since 1938, is an event that is greatly anticipated by children in the area. It made for an indescribable and unique atmosphere on the football pitches of the Home of FIFA, which has been the venue for the tournament for several years.
