A century to remember for Ramos

Spain's defender Sergio Ramos celebrates a goal during the FIFA 2014 World Cup qualifier football ma

By playing in Spain's 1-1 draw with Finland in 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ qualifying, Sergio Ramos became only the eighth player in La Roja's history to earn his 100th international cap. After the defender crowned the landmark occasion by netting his side's goal, we take a numerical look back on Ramos' successful career with Spain.

3 Number of titles Ramos has won with La Roja so far. Triumphs at the 2008 and 2012 UEFA EUROs as well as the 2010 FIFA World Cup have secured Ramos' status as one of the cornerstones of the golden generation of Spanish football. The next chance of silverware will be the FIFA Confederations Cup Brazil 2013, which is a trophy still missing from Spain's cabinets.

9 The number of goals Ramos has scored in his 100 appearances on the international stage. He notched his first strikes, a brace against San Marino, in the final qualifying match for Germany 2006. The defender, playing at right-back at the time, contributed to a 6-0 victory, but even that was not enough for Spain to avoid the need for a play-off against Slovakia to finalise their ticket to the showpiece tournament.

10 The amount of FIFA World Cup matches Ramos has played in since his inaugural outing on 14 June 2006, which came in Spain's 4-0 victory over Ukraine in their first group game at the finals in Germany. Four years later Ramos was a mainstay in the Spanish rearguard and started all seven of his team's matches en route to becoming world champions, including playing the full 120 minutes of the Final.

15 The shirt number worn by Ramos with the national team virtually since he broke into the side. He began by wearing the number 19 but soon switched and has never wanted to change. It serves as a tribute to his late friend and former Seville youth team colleague Antonio Puerta, who died following a heart attack during a La Liga match in 2007. Puerta wore the number 15 during his only appearance for the senior Spanish side and Ramos now dedicates every triumph to his friend.

18 years, 361 days was Ramos' age when he made his senior debut, having already represented his country at various youth levels. Then-coach Luis Aragones brought Ramos on for the second half of Spain's 3-0 friendly win over China on 26 March 2005, replacing fellow member of La Roja's 'centurion club' Carles Puyol.

26 years 358 days was Ramos' age when he joined said exclusive club, becoming the youngest ever European player to reach the milestone. The Real Madrid defender broke the previous record set by Lukas Podolski, who played his 100th game for Germany aged 27 years 13 days.

28 The number of passes Spain completed on the way to Ramos scoring the now famous goal to put his side 2-0 up against Denmark in a crucial UEFA EURO 2008 qualifying match. It signalled the beginning of the tiki-taka style that has characterised Spain's play ever since. The final 3-1 scoreline, coupled with Spain's dazzling display, gave Aragones and his charges the confidence to employ the possession-based tactic that has subsequently brought them such great success.

100 The number of international games Ramos has featured in after facing Finland on 22 March. The Seville native wore the captain's armband in the absence of Iker Casillas, Puyol and Xavi Hernandez and headed in Spain's only goal of the game. However, the 1-1 final result dampened the celebrations somewhat.
