Broos: Disappointing result, pleasing performance

Cameroon coach Hugo Broos acknowledged that his side had made a nervy start in their loss to Chile, but praised his charges for how they responded.

"I think we were too tentative early on," he said. "We were a bit fearful because we knew we were up against a good team. The lads reacted well at half-time and Chile didn't threaten much thereafter, but they scored from their first chance . I'm disappointed with the result, but pleased with the performance."

Meanwhile, his Chile counterpart, Juan Antonio Pizzi, talked up his team's experience and mental fortitude, saying: "My players have been performing to a very high level for three years now. We tried to bring the strongest possible side here, one that can dig in when the going gets tough, as was the case in the second half today."
