Bayern to face Real, Liverpool draw Roma
Bayern Munich to face Real Madrid in Champions League semi-final
Liverpool and Roma will also face off in the final four
First legs on 24 and 25 April, second legs on 1 and 2 May
The UEFA Champions League semi-final draw has laid out a pair of intriguing heavyweight clashes on the road to the final in Kiev on 26 May and December’s FIFA Club World Cup.
German heavyweights and five-time champions Bayern Munich were drawn to face the holders and 11-time winners Real Madrid. The other semi-final will see another five-time winner - Liverpool - face the only side remaining to have never won the competition: Italian giants Roma.
Bayern versus Real has been a semi-final in the European Cup/Champions League on no fewer than six occasions, the most recent meeting in the final four coming in April 2014 - with Los Blancos defeating the Bavarian outfit 5-0 across two legs on their way to La Decima.
The other tie is a repeat of the 1984 European Cup final, which saw Liverpool emerge victorious on penalties after the game finished 1-1 after extra time. Their most recent meeting in continental competition came back in March 2002, with Jari Litmanen and Emile Heskey sealing the Reds a spot in the quarter-finals of that edition, courtesy of a 2-0 victory.
The first legs will be played on Tuesday 24 and Wednesday 25 April, with the return legs on 1 and 2 May.
The winner of the 2017/18 UEFA Champions League will represent Europe at the FIFA Club World Cup UAE 2018.
