Argentina are heading to the FIFA Women’s World Cup ™ for the first time in 12 years following a 5-1 aggregate win over Panama in the intercontinental play-off.

The South Americans went into Tuesday’s second leg in Panama City with a comfortable 4-0 buffer from last week’s opening tie.

Panama, who have never featured at a Women’s World Cup, gave themselves a fighting chance when Natalia Mills got on the end of a cross to fire home the opening goal eight minutes before half-time.

However, Argentina grabbed an away goal through Florencia Bonsegundo midway through the second half to put the contest to bed.

A late red card to substitute Yamila Rodriguez failed to dampen Las Albicelestes celebrations, with the South Americans now headed to their third Women’s World Cup.

The final spots on offer for France 2019 will be determined in just over a fortnight in Africa (three spots) and Oceania (one spot).
