Following the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015, it was Team USA who proudly held aloft the treasured prize – the object of their intense desire since narrowly missing out on victory in 2011.
Designed by William Sawaya and hand-crafted by Milanese specialists Sawaya & Moroni for the 1999 tournament, the magnificent FIFA Women’s World Cup Trophy captures perfectly the athleticism, dynamism and elegance of international women’s football.
Recently fitted with a modern, cone-shaped base that reinforces the uplifting spirit of the design, the Official Trophy stretches skywards in the form of a spiral band, enclosing a football at the top.
Underneath the base, the name of each of the tournament’s previous winners is engraved to cement their place in FIFA Women’s World Cup™ history.
For the first time in this tournament, the Original Trophy was presented to the winning team – USA – on the field of play immediately following the match, before being exchanged with the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2015 Winner’s Trophy that is theirs to keep
The Winner’s Trophy bears a plaque at the back of the base indicating the historic context of the respective Trophy – year, venue and the name of the winner.
