Auckland City have won the OFC Champions League for a seventh consecutive time following a comprehensive 5-0 aggregate win over fellow New Zealand side Team Wellington on Sunday.
Their victory means yet another return to the FIFA Club World Cup, with this year’s competition to be held in the United Arab Emirates in December.
Boasting a hefty 3-0 advantage after the home leg, Auckland travelled south to the capital and after a scoreless first half, goals from Ryan De Vries and Emiliano Tade ensured a 2-0 scoreline at David Farrington Park.
It is a ninth title overall for the Navy Blues, and their current run dates back to the victory by Papua New Guinea’s Hekari United in 2010.
Auckland City have performed with distinction at previous editions of the Club World Cup, most famously winning through to the semi-final in 2014.
