FC Porto won their 19th Portuguese Super Cup after narrowly defeating Academica Coimbra 1-0 courtesy of a last-minute winning goal from Jackson Martinez.

The annual curtain-raiser between the country’s league champions and cup winners from the previous season was settled in Porto’s favour for the fourth year running.

The Colombian Martinez is a new signing at Porto, having joined from Mexican side Jaguares in July, and his strike secured a first trophy of the season for Vitor Pereira’s side.

Pereira and his men kick off their attempt to retain the domestic championship at Gil Vicente next Sunday, while Academica begin their league campaign a day later at Beira-Mar.
