  • Report covers the first year of operation of Football Tribunal

  • Football Tribunal unites the existing FIFA decision-making bodies under a single umbrella body

  • It started operations on 1 October 2021

FIFA has today published the first Football Tribunal Report, which covers the period from 1 July 2021 to 30 June 2022. The report contains the work of the Players’ Status Department in the Legal & Compliance Division, which acts as a secretariat to the Football Tribunal. During the period in question, the department received a record number of 14,540 cases, applications and enquiries: • 10,566 involved matters of registration and eligibility. • 605 contractual disputes were submitted to the Players’ Status Chamber. • 3,369 employment-related disputes and claims for solidarity contribution and training compensation were submitted to the Dispute Resolution Chamber. Applications for the registration of minors experienced the biggest spike compared to 2020/2021, with an increase of 144.1%.

In May 2021 the FIFA Congress decide to establish the Football Tribunal in order to deliver a more efficient and modern decision-making system with far reaching improvements. Among the latter are: • expedited processes for preliminary procedural matters; • specific procedural rules governing all regulatory applications; and • a voluntary and free mediation process. According to article 54 of the FIFA Statutes, the Football Tribunal is composed of three chambers: the Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC), the Players’ Status Chamber (PSC) and the Agents Chamber (AC). FIFA will continue to modernise its regulatory framework and dispute resolution system in line with its vision for 2020-2023 in order to further facilitate and streamline all proceedings before the decision making and judicial bodies, while maintaining the highest level of quality, transparency and traceability for all football stakeholders.
