As their five appearances at the FIFA Futsal World Cup prove, Paraguay have become a force on the South American scene. Of their regional rivals, only Argentina and Brazil have amassed more experience on the big stage, having contested all seven world finals competitions to date. 

Present at the last three competitions, La Albirroja’s best performance to date came in finishing sixth at Netherlands 1989. They also impressed at Thailand 2012, finishing group runners-up to Ukraine before going down in the last 16 to Portugal and finishing tenth of the 24 participating nations.

That consistency at the highest level is one of the reasons why futsal has become one of the most popular sports among Paraguay’s youngsters, with FIFA lending a helping hand to ensure the continued development of the grassroots game.
