TSG: The Final verdict

In the 40th game of FIFA Futsal World Championship Chinese Taipei 2004, Spain beat Italy 2-1 to take the title. Despite a spirited late comeback by Italy, Javier Lozano's men held on to retain the world crown they first won in Guatemala 2000. asked the Technical Services Group (TSG) for their verdict on the final. Here are the views of the four men who make up the TSG - Carlos Quiros, Vic Hermans, Vicente de Luise and João Rocha.

"In the first half both teams played openly when attacking and defending. Italy put more pressure on the opponents while Spain played possession football, trying to build chances to score.

In the second half after Spain scored the first goal the game opened up even more. After Spain scored the second goal Italy started using their keeper in a more advanced position and later changed their goalkeeper with a 5th player (Bacaro). Spain lost control of the game having to concentrate on defending which allowed some good scoring opportunities for Italy who finally scored with 36 seconds to go.

Our player of the final was Marcelo. He scored a tremendous goal and showed top class tactical awareness throughout the game."
