FIFA will launch the first edition of the FIFA Interactive Club World Cup (FICWC) competition in London on 5 August. 24 players from 19 professional football clubs will compete in the inaugural edition of the FICWC.
Building on the worldwide popularity of the FIFA Interactive World Cup, the FICWC will see professional football clubs with eSports divisions battle it out for the last two remaining seats at the FIWC 2017 Grand Final, which will take place in London from 16-18 August.
The rapid and massive growth of eSports has seen many major football clubs establish eSports divisions and official eSports teams. The FIFA Interactive Club World Cup is the first major inter-club tournament of EA SPORTS™ FIFA 17, organised by FIFA and its partners. Along with the prestige of representing their clubs in an international tournament, the competing players will get a chance to win one of two qualification seats at the FIWC 2017 Grand Final.
First six teams revealed!
19 clubs will be represented at the FICWC. Each week, from today until 31 July, the FIFA Interactive World Cup Facebook Page will reveal several of the participating teams.
First six confirmed clubs: Brøndby IF (Denmark); Manchester City (England); Paris Saint-Germain (France); Schalke 04 (Germany); Sampdoria (Italy); Valencia (Spain)
*Tournament format *24 players from 19 selected clubs will compete at the FICWC.
Competing clubs will be allowed to send either one or two players to the Interactive Club World Cup. The number of seats a club is awarded will be based on how successful players have been at previous live qualification events.
Just like in all the previous FIWC 2017 live qualification events, competing players will be split into two divisions: PlayStation®4 and Xbox One. Each division will consist of two groups of six players.
The top two players in each group will progress to the divisional semi-final. The semi-finals and final for each division will be played over two legs. The PlayStation division champion and the Xbox division champion will each receive a qualification seat at the FIWC 2017 Grand Final.
