Panama, Costa Rica stay in the hunt for France 2019

  • Two wins from two for Panama and Costa Rica

  • Central American pair reach final-eight in CONCACAF

  • Three automatic tickets to France 2019 on offer in October

Panama and Costa Rica won their way to the CONCACAF Women’s Championship with room to spare following wins over El Salvador and Nicaragua on Wednesday.

Panama came from behind for an emphatic 6-2 win over El Salvador after the match was level 2-2 at the break. Kenia Rangel led the way with a second-half treble as Panama overran their opponents.

Costa Rica ran out comfortable 4-1 victors over Nicaragua in the other match played in neutral Bradenton, USA.

With two tickets up for grabs, the results give the pair an unassailable lead ahead of Friday’s final matchday.

It will be Panama’s first appearance in the continental championship since 2006. Costa Rica, meanwhile, finished second four years ago to reach their maiden FIFA Women’s World Cup™.

USA, Canada and Mexico are seeded for October’s CONCACAF Championship, while three Caribbean nations will confirm their qualification later this week.

Three automatic spots for France 2019 are on offer with a fourth nation to play-off against Argentina in November.
