  • The 34-year-old scored a wonderful header against Australia

  • The Brazilian beat nine other candidates to the award

Football fans celebrated an impressive 146 goals during the 52 matches at the FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019™, meaning that the ball hit the back of the net almost three times per game (2.8). Lovers of the beautiful game then had the chance to vote for their favourite strike out of ten choices.

After more than 300,000 fans took part in an online vote on FIFA.com, Cristiane’s brilliant header against Australia was eventually chosen as the Hyundai Goal of the Tournament.

The goal that emerged victorious in the FIFA.com poll gave Brazil a 2-0 lead in their second group match against the Matildas, and was Cristiane’s 11th World Cup strike—only four players (Marta, Birgit Prinz, Abby Wambach and Michelle Akers) have scored more in the competition. However, the Australians ultimately turned things around to end the match as 3-2 winners.
