Germany progressed to the quarter-finals of the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup Jordan 2016 after a 2-0 victory over Cameroon at the Prince Mohammed International Stadium in Zarqa in the last matchday of Group B.

Germany were in control for large parts of the match and Giulia Gwinn continued her fine run of form in the tournament with an early goal, before substitute Lena Oberdorf bundled in a goal in the second half from a free-kick to double their lead and assure them a place in the knockout stages.

The Germans had two early goalscoring chances with a free-kick hit just over the Cameroon goal in the eighth minute, and an opportunity from Gwinn who raced on goal only for Cameroon goalkeeper Ange Bawou to do enough to block her effort.

Germany broke the deadlock in the 15th minute after a great spell of precision passing was finished by Gwinn who timed her run perfectly and dispatched her left-footed effort into the opposite corner of the Cameroon net for her ninth goal in 26 appearances for her side.

Oberdorf scored in the 72nd minute just seconds after coming on. The Germans' first goal could be described as 'beautiful' while Oberdorf's was quite the opposite. Cameroon failed to clear their lines from a German free-kick on the edge of the area and Oberdorf was in the right place at the right time to knee the ball in the back of the net to give her side the two-goal advantage.

Germany will be looking to better their performance at New Zealand 2008 in the competition when they finished in third place, while debutantes Cameroon can take heart from their performances in Jordan despite losing all three matches as they played each game close in a competitive group.
