England scored a last-gasp equaliser to snatch a 3-3 draw with Korea DPR in a thrilling Group C encounter at Amman's King Abdullah II Stadium.

It was a terrific spectacle and both sides played their part by committing wholeheartedly to attack, producing an end-to-end thriller that delighted the watching crowd. England came into the match as underdogs but showed early signs of promise through their pacey forwards, and it was no great surprise when they took the lead after 20 minutes. Niamh Charles was the creator, turning and delivering an inviting, inswinging cross from the left, and Ellie Brazil provided the finishing touch with a looping header past Ok Kum-Ju in the North Korean goal.

The Asian champions had quick, dangerous forwards of their own, though, and it was one of the liveliest who restored parity nine minutes later, Sung Hyang-Sim racing through to shoot left-footed under the body of Ellie Roehbuck. But if Korea DPR thought they now had the momentum, they were proved wrong when Georgia Stanway restored England's lead soon after, working a neat one-two with Brazil and side-footing coolly home after her initial shot was blocked.

The second half belonged largely to the North Koreans, who levelled on 66 minutes when Kim Pom-Ui's 25-yard free-kick sneaked through the grasp of the erstwhile excellent Roehbuck. It then seemed that the 2008 champions had snatched a late win when the excellent Sung burst down the right and crossed for Ko Kyung-Hui to bundle home from close range.

But England weren't done yet and claimed a deserved point with almost the last kick of the game. What a kick it was too, with Alessia Russo crashing a 20-yard shot into the bottom-left corner to provide a fittingly fantastic finale in the 94th minute of this epic encounter.
