The final South American place at the global finals, which will unfold in October, will go to either Paraguay or Chile, who will clash on Saturday with the former requiring just a draw.

Caicedo has illuminated this South American U-17 Women's Championship, and her performance against Chile today was arguably her most scintillating. The Deportivo Cali winger produced a breathtaking dribble to set up the first for Karla Torres, before scoring the second herself. Sintia Cabezas sealed a 3-0 victory in the 79th minute. Brazil have never gone past the U-17 Women’s World Cup quarter-finals, but they have laid down a bold statement of intent to rip that up in Montevideo. As well as a 100-per-cent record, they have scored 32 goals and conceded zero.

Simone Jatoba, the former Seleção and Lyon midfielder, elected to rest Uruguay 2022’s leading markswoman, but it didn’t stop Jhonson’s team-mates making light work of Paraguay. Aline broke the deadlock and a brilliant solo goal from Dudinha doubled the defending champions’ lead. A red card complicated the Paraguayans’ task, and substitute Rhaissa, after fine work from Aline, completed a 3-0 success with a rocket into the roof on the net late on. Brazil and Colombia will now collide on Saturday to decide who conquers the South American U-17 Women's Championship. A draw would secure A Seleção their fourth crown, while Las Cafeteras require all three points to triumph for the second time.

Korea DPR have conquered it twice, while Korea Republic, France, Japan and reigning champions Spain have one title apiece.
