Advantage Angola as Comoros and Togo share spoils

  • Comoros draw 1-1 with Togo

  • Angola win 1-0 away to Gambia

  • Togo and Angola previously appeared at the Germany 2006 finals

On Friday, Togo and Angola kicked off their FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ qualifying campaigns, hoping to return to the world's greatest footballing showpiece tournament 16 years after their last appearance, at Germany 2006. While Angola won 1-0 away in Gambia, Togo failed to hold on to their lead and ultimately drew 1-1 with Comoros.

At the Stade de Moroni, Comoros came from behind to tie with Togo, who were ahead before the break. The visitors led when Al-Ain’s Laba Kodjo scored in the 34th minute, but Ibroihim Djoudja equalised for Comoros when he netted from a free-kick four minutes into the second half.

In Bakau, Angola grabbed the only goal of the game against Gambia in the 35th minute when Wilson Carmo headed home. The strike gives Angola a vital advantage prior to the second leg in Luanda next Saturday.
