FIFA.com continues its series introducing fans to the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ stadiums, which are preparing to welcome both fans and the best footballers on the planet. Today we present the Rostov Arena, where five-time world champions Brazil begin their campaign against Switzerland on 17 June.

Matches The Rostov Arena is set to host four matches in the group stage of Russia 2018, including the opening day encounter between Brazil and Switzerland. Also, the winners of Group G will face the runners-up of Group H in the Round of 16 in Rostov-on-Don.

Capacity The Rostov Arena, built specially for the 2018 World Cup, is capable of holding up to 45,000 spectators.

Location The arena is located on a picturesque spot in Rostov on the left bank of the River Don and instantly catches the eye. During the World Cup, fans will be able to enjoy themselves on the riverbank, getting to know Cossack culture and tasting local cuisine in the many cafes and restaurants.

Did you know? After the World Cup, local authorities are planning to transform the area around the stadium into a sports and health centre. As well as the Rostov Arena, a rowing canal and a water sports area, an ice-skating rink, a handball court and an equestrian centre will all be built. These facilities will not only be open to professionals but also amateur athletes, students and schoolchildren.

First games Currently the Rostov Arena is undergoing the final stage of construction ahead of Russia 2018. It is expected that local club FC Rostov will play a few of their final home fixtures of the Russian Premier League this season at the new facility.

Legacy FC Rostov caused shockwaves in Europe last season: after finishing in second place in the Russian top flight, they unexpectedly qualified for the group stage of the UEFA Champions League, where they defeated Bayern Munich on home soil. Rostov play at the 15,000-seater Olimp-2 stadium at the moment and are due to move into their new home permanently after the World Cup.
