Jordan Henderson has lamented England’s concession of two late goals in a 2-2 draw against Spain, but praised their attacking performance at Wembley. Adam Lallana broke the deadlock, coolly dispatching a penalty after Jamie Vardy was tripped by Pepe Reina. Vardy made it 2-0 just after the restart, only for late goals from Iago Aspas and Isco to snatch the South Africa 2010 winners a draw.

“We’re devastated because we put a lot of work into it,” said Henderson. “We worked really hard throughout the game. To concede two like that, late on, is very disappointing. But we gave everything.

“In the final third we created some good chances , we looked dangerous on the counter-attack. And for most of the game we defended well – they didn’t have many clear-cut chances.

“We’ll go away, we’ll look back on the game and look at the good things and also the bad things and what we need to improve on. To concede like that late on is disappointing.

“But overall I thought we gave everything. You have to give credit to Spain – they’re a world-class team, they’ve got world-class players. But I thought we matched them in terms of effort and work-rate, and in the final third, on the counter-attack, we looked very dangerous. So there’s a lot of good things we can take from it, but overall we’re disappointed because we should have won.”
