The 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ is getting closer – 70 days to go!

In less than three months' time – on 14 June, to be precise – the 21st FIFA World Cup™ kicks off at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium, as the hosts take on Saudi Arabia.

That leaves us plenty of time to enjoy a countdown. Between now and the start of the World Cup, we will take a closer look at a different statistic from the history of the tournament each day.

70 matches in World Cup history have finished with neither side able to find the back of the net. Although it is undeniable that the main objective of football is to score goals, even 0-0 draws can provide dramatic moments, tense atmospheres and selfless and determined performances from the players.

England have been involved in the most 0-0 draws at the World Cup, the Three Lions having stopped the opposition from scoring while unable to break the deadlock themselves 11 times overall at the tournament.

The only time there was a goalless draw in a World Cup Final was at USA 1994 between Brazil and Italy. The two footballing giants played out an incredibly nerve-racking contest that eventually went to a dreaded penalty shoot-out. Azzurri stars Franco Baresi and Roberto Baggio both struck their efforts over the crossbar, ensuring that Brazil became champions for a record fourth time.
