Following Korea Republic and the Netherlands, four more teams made it through to the last eight during the second Round of 16 matchday at the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2019™, with Mexico, Spain, France and Brazil all progressing.

The game with the most goals (five) came in the South American showdown, where the hosts just managed to squeeze past Chile. There were almost as many goals in the match between the Les Bleuets and the Aussies, but this tie was more one-sided, with the Australians having to pick the ball out of the net four times.

Mexico and Spain saw off Japan and Senegal, respectively, converting their chances at crucial moments of the game.

In the quarter-finals, the Seleção will face either Ecuador or Italy on Monday (20:00 local time), a few hours after an all-European clash between Spain and France (16:30 local time). Mexico meanwhile will take on Korea Republic on Sunday (20:00 local time).

Treading the path the Netherlands blazed by defeating Nigeria yesterday, Mexico became the second third-placed team from the opening phase to defeat a group winner. The two other third-placed countries, however – Australia and Chile – are now heading home after defeats earlier today.

Clean sheet no more Japan had managed four matches (and 367 minutes) at this level of competition without conceding a goal, and they maintained this into the second half against Mexico, before Eugenio Pizzuto finally broke through with a goal that would herald the beginning of the end of the Samurai Blue's campaign.

France continue their run Their full internationals are the current FIFA World Cup™ champions, and the youngsters are now putting together an impressive run, with France now unbeaten in 15 FIFA U-17 World Cup matches (12 wins and three draws).

All for one, one for all Brazil's players took time to care for a team-mate while celebrating their scintillating comeback victory. Talles Magno was in tears after being forced out of the match due to injury in second-half stoppage time, reducing the Canarinha to 10 players for the final moments. Shortly after the whistle sounded, Brazil's players lifted up Magno and carried him off the pitch with them, underscoring their strong bond.
