Madrid clubs make last four

The city of Madrid’s love affair with the UEFA Champions League will continue into the semi-finals of this season’s competition after both Atletico and Real triumphed in their quarter-final ties on Tuesday evening.

A first-half goal from Saul Niguez helped Atletico Madrid to advance past English Premier League champions Leicester City after a 1-1 draw in the second leg at the King Power Stadium for a 2-1 aggregate success. Though they needed extra time, Real saw off fellow European giants Bayern Munich 4-2 for a 6-3 aggregate win, with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring a hat-trick and breaking more records in the process at the Santiago Bernabeu.
