The FIFA eWorld Cup™ 2019 not only gripped the audience at The O2 in London and the many tuning in around the planet via streams broadcasted in six languages, it also caught the imagination of the world’s media.

Renowned outlets reported on ‘MoAuba’ and his triumph over defending champion ‘MsDossary’, which saw the Werder Bremen man become the first German to win a global competitive FIFA crown, as well as his tantalising semi-final over ‘Nicolas99fc’ which was decided on penalties.

FIFA.com rounds up what the media said about the Grand Final – from German publications such as Bild and Deutsche Welle basking in the victory of their compatriot to global names from the BBC to the New York Times giving their take on the Final Showdown.

"Heading into the competition ‘MoAuba’ was not one of the favourites but he beat the three highest-ranked PlayStation players on his way to the final before taking down ‘Msdossary’, who until that point was undefeated, to become Germany's first ever FIFA eWorld Cup champion. In possibly the game of the tournament he overcame Argentina's Nicolas 'nicolas99fc' Villalba in a penalty shootout in the semi-final."

"Mohammed ‘MoAuba’ Harkous is the first German in the history of e-sports to be the FIFA World Champion. That he made it to the finals of the 2019 FIFA eWorld Cup was extremely close. In a thrilling encounter in the knockout round against Argentinia’s Nicolas ‘Nicolas99fc’ Villalba, Harkous was able to prevail after two initially one-sided games on penalties."

"A new winner was crowned against the odds as MoAuba's offensive strategy paid off against his opponent's restricting tactics, becoming Germany's first FIFA eWorld Cup champion in the process."

"Harkous has been a mainstay of the competitive FIFA circuit and, in 2019, represented Germany in the FIFA eNations Cup and won the Virtual Bundesliga title with Werder. The title in London will take pride and place in a trophy cabinet that also already holds five German titles."

Mo Harkous (MoAuba) of Germany kisses the trophy following victory in the FIFA eWorld Cup Final

"Thousands of people crammed into the O2 Arena in London to sit in front of the spectacular FIFA eWorld Cup 2019 stage where one FIFA 19 player would make history and become World Champion. It was an extraordinary tournament with some of the best matches FIFA 19 fans have seen all year."

New York Times

"Millions of players around the world had started off hoping to reach the London finals where the top-32 have been in action since Friday -- the 58 hours of action streamed live in six languages across social media and leading broadcasters. Harkous, a professional gamer for Werder Bremen, paraded around the stage holding aloft a German flag."

"MoAuba – the short version of his nickname 'MoAubameyang' – is just one of a number of Germans playing at the very top of competitive FIFA, despite being the first from the country to win in the eWorld Cup. The win is by far the most high-profile of his eSports career."
