The year 2016 was a truly memorable one for women’s football. At no less than three major tournaments were the female exponents of the beautiful game able to successfully demonstrate their talents to the world.

Germany gave outgoing coach Silvia Neid the perfect send-off at the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament Rio 2016. Furthermore, a FIFA women’s competition was staged in the Middle East for the first time when the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup took place in Jordan, and Korea DPR celebrated a historic triumph at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Papua New Guinea.

Yet it was not just events on the pitch that ensured women’s football enjoyed a prominent place on FIFA.com. Countless current and former players, coaches, and important associations figures had their say on a number of subjects. England international Natasha Dowie opened up on a special family bond, former Germany goalkeeper Nadine Angerer revealed her favourite outfit, and Cheri Stewart, Executive Director of the Guam Football Association, discussed a very special league on the island.
