The 1966 FIFA World Cup England™ is best remembered for the Three Lions’ Final victory over rivals West Germany at Wembley and the goalscoring exploits of Portugal legend Eusebio. But England 1966 also holds a special place in the history of Russian football.

Competing as the Soviet Union, they finished fourth at those global finals - their best performance at a World Cup to date. Former defender Vladimir Ponomaryov shares his memories of playing in England, where the Russians met Eusebio's Portugal in the Match for Third Place.
