  • Meeting took place around UEFA EURO 2020 match in Baku

FIFA President Gianni Infantino praised the progress of football development in Azerbaijan on a visit to Baku and discussed the importance of continuing that work in a meeting with the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan (AFFA).

President Infantino attended the UEFA EURO 2020 match between Switzerland and Turkey at Baku Olympic Stadium, the third of four matches in the tournament to be staged at the venue.

Discussions were held about capitalising on the work to date done on developing football for boys and girls, men and women across the country.

“I was delighted to be in Baku and meet my good friends of the Azerbaijan federation. They know they can count on FIFA and we know we can count on AFFA to develop football in the country and in the region,” said the FIFA President.

AFFA has been eager to ensure that development work benefits football participants nationwide, illustrated by the inauguration and boosting of the Turan Tovuz Football Academy, supported by FIFA funding.

That facility includes a fully-equipped, modern stadium, four mini-pitches (including one indoor pitch), academy rooms and restaurants.
