Sixth AFC Medical Conference underway in Chengdu

Between 4 and 8 March 2019, the sixth Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Medical Conference will take place in Chengdu, China – a country where football development has been growing rapidly over the last few years.

Describing the meaning of this year’s conference title Football and Sports Medicine – the challenging horizon, AFC President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa said “Modern football has evolved tremendously with greater physical and mental demands on players, particularly at the elite level. It is therefore essential for medical practitioners and experts to explore more areas for innovation and take a more integrated approach to enhance the level of protection of players.“

Speakers and guests from all corners of the world, including FIFA representatives from all levels of football medicine, will attend. Topics relating to best practices and new insights into the latest challenges, issues and cutting-edge developments in sports medicine will be presented and discussed in a series of symposiums.

It is hoped that the conference will pave the way for greater partnerships in the football medicine community and contribute to improving the level of care for players everywhere – ensuring that they are in the best possible physical condition and are provided with the best treatment and preventive care.

According to Michel D’Hooghe, Chairman of the FIFA Medical Committee, “The organisation of the international medical conference by the AFC marks a new development in the challenging story of football medicine. The most recent advances in the different fields of football medicine will be presented, together with new visions, where medicine will be supported by technology and informatics.”
