The pupils at two Port Moresby’s schools have enjoyed a special treat with the visit of England international Alex Scott and the Papua New Guinea U-20 national team on Tuesday.
Scott, who is attending the tournament on behalf of FIFA for the #ENDViolence campaign, proved richly popular with the children, as did a PNG team who have come to national attention over the past fortnight.
There was an array of questions for Scott, assisted by the young PNG stars, promoted the #ENDViolence message - a campaign focussed on ending violence towards women and children.
The three-time FIFA Women’s World Cup™ participant had plenty of words of inspiration for the attentive youngsters.
“PNG should be proud of this team with the excitement they had (on Sunday) after scoring a goal,” said Scott. “My message to PNG is to believe and have confidence in yourself.”
Selfies were the order of the day for the popular visitors, while tournament mascot Susa was also on hand adding colour.
Earlier in the day, Scott visited the city Town Hall and met with Powes Parkop, governor of Port Moresby and the National Capital District to support the #sanap wantaim campaign. The campaign, SANAP WANTAIM – STAND TOGETHER, seeks to bring men and women, boys and girls, as allies and partners in making the city of Port Moresby safe for everyone.
