President congratulates quarter-finalists as group stage concludes

  • FIFA President witnesses confirmation of last eight in Qatar

  • Morocco and Jordan take qualification spots from Group C

President Gianni Infantino watched the field of contenders for FIFA Arab Cup 2021™ reduced to eight in Doha, congratulated the quarter-finalists and now looks forward to a thrilling series of knockout round matches.

The FIFA President started off the final day of Group Stage action at Al Thamama Stadium, where Morocco sealed their place at the Group C summit with a 1-0 win over Saudi Arabia and continued talks with FIFA Council members, member association representatives and other guests at Stadium 974 as Jordan booked their place in the next phase with a 5-1 win over Palestine.

“I would like to applaud all of the teams here in Qatar for the standard of the football during the tournament so far,” said President Infantino. “The teams who have made it through have shown a high level of performance so far and it all bodes well for a compelling series of quarter-final matches, starting on Friday. I would also like to thank the eliminated teams for their commitment and dedication, which has helped to launch this competition in style.”

The FIFA President then attended the Group D decider between Algeria and Egypt, as the latter topped the section with a 1-1 draw.
