FIWC Regionals: Munich up next!

The qualifiers for the Grand Final of the FIFA Interactive World Cup 2017 continue apace, with Season 3 set to kick off  after the climax to Seasons 1 and 2 in Berlin. Eight players have already qualified for London, and ten more will join them from the Regional Final in Munich, where gamers will be competing from 9 to 15 June.

How does it work? No fewer than 50 players are set to lock horns over the five days in Bavaria, having earned their spots during the Season 3 online qualifiers. They will be split evenly into ten groups – one half on PlayStation 4, the other on Xbox One – and the top four gamers from each section will advance to the knockout phase. Two players will then clinch a ticket to London each day.

In the daily group stage, the top four players of each group advance to the knockout stage and will contest a play-off (1st v 4th, 2nd v 3rd) and in the finale there will be a winner for each division (Xbox and PS4). These two winners will qualify for the FIWC Grand Final.

Players to watch As the cream of European virtual football descends on Munich, many of the players who lit up Seasons 1 and 2 will be showcasing their talents. Among them, Paris Regional Final winner 'Hashtag Tass' of England** will be back, and so too will Italy's 'Prinsipe' – winner of the Madrid event – with both anxious to make up for a disappointing performance in Berlin. Meanwhile, Season 1 PlayStation 4 champion S04_Cihan and Season 2 Xbox One runner-up PSG Daxe** will be eager to seize this latest chance to claim a Grand Final berth.

The programme After the dust settles in Munich, the action will continue in two more Regional Finals. The first, featuring the Rest of the World, is due to be held in Doha, Qatar, between 30 June and 1 July, while the dates for the Regional Final Americas will be announced shortly.** **
