Living Football | Episode 15

Portugal made history by lifting their first ever FIFA Futsal World Cup trophy in Lithuania, and their heroics are revisited in this episode of Living Football. Goalkeeper Bebe joins the show to share his memories of an unforgettable penalty shoot-out in the semi-final, before Portugal defeated holders Argentina to become champions.

“It was an incredible feeling, we were so happy to finally get to the final, but there were some tense moments. I have to be honest: I didn’t watch the penalties being taken, I just turned around and watched the fans. I reacted whenever the fans cheered, so it was incredibly tense.”

Living Football also welcomed Germany legend Inka Grings onto the show to talk about how the FIFA Women’s World Cup can define generations of women, around the world.

"I was at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France, which was fantastic,” the former Germany striker and current FC Zurich coach said. “The atmosphere, the sport, the women, the development of their personalities, I just find that so, so important for us women. Then there are the smaller countries, which perhaps don’t have such big dreams, they’re able to pursue their objectives through the sport. You have to have an aim, that’s so important. It’s a massive step forward to see that increase in popularity.”

Falk Eller, FIFA’s director of Ticketing and Hospitality, also joined presenter Jessica Libbertz on the sofa, to discuss the upcoming FIFA Arab Cup. “Qatar is compact, so fans can attend more than one match in the same day, which is a first-ever in the history of FIFA tournaments.

“The tournament will feature 16 teams and fans will have the pleasure to see six out of the eight FIFA World Cup stadiums, which will be used next year. Al Bayt, which I personally believe is one of the most beautiful stadiums I have seen in my life. You can feel how Arabic culture is applied to a modern football stadium. For that alone it is worthwhile going!”
